As the nights draw in we invite you to a screening of the BBC’s celebrated A Ghost Story for Christmas films from the 1970s, written by acclaimed playwright and novelist John Bowen.

The Treasure of Abbot Thomas (Lawrence Gordon Clark, 1974). Adapted from the MR James story. An academic cleric and his protégée go hunting for lost treasure.

The Ice House (Derek Lister, 1978). An original tale concerning the sinister goings on at an exclusive rural health retreat.

The evening will also see a Q&A with actor Paul Lavers, director Derek Lister, and designer Roger Murray-Leach. Each film will be introduced by TV historian and ghost story adaptation expert Jon Dear and journalist, writer, and John Bowen expert Simon Farquhar.
